I haven't seen the new one yet, but I suspect the older version is better.

They are so different. I love the original but I also really loved the new one. I might even say that I liked the new one better because of the added depth to the story.

Ok, I've finally seen the new one. As a whole, I like the old one better. I love Johnny Depp, but he was way too freaky for me in this one. Also, I was waiting for the attempted thievery of the everlasting gobstopper which never happend and the bubble room where Charlie and Grampa Joe had to burp or something to get down. I did however like the ending because the old version didn't go there. At least with the new one, I got some closure to the story. I never understood why Willie Wonka was giving the factory away or what happened when that glass elevator was up in the sky. And most importantly, I STILL want to smack the crap out of Veruca Salt!

I felt kind of the same, it was not a good role for him! I like the old one until they redo it better lol!
